Mayo’s largely unspoilt; clean countryside, varying landscapes, unique scenery and rich heritage and folklore mark it as ideal walking destination. It can offer most types of walks including mountain and hill walks, coastal and island walks, and rural and urban walks. The variety of walks on offer may combine to offer an unrivalled and unforgettable experience for walking tourists. The various types of trails on offer are listed hereunder.
Linear – Long Distance / Way Marked Ways
The trails / walks use a variety of colours to indicate the level of difficulty. Details are as follows:
Green - easy, short 1-2hrs duration, suitable for all levels of fitness.
Blue - moderate difficulity, 2-3hrs duration, suitable for medium levels of fitness.
Red - hard, 3-5hrs duration, suited to walkers with higher than average levels of fitness.
Purple - difficult terrian, usually more high level.
Yellow - Indicates waymarked ways.
